Welcome to Volume 2 of the Evens and Odds series. A series where I create mix tapes with special guests (musicians, firends, DJs etc). For volume two I am joined by special guest, my friend, musician and all around good guy Timothy Fife (with solo releases on Death Waltz, Spun Out of Control, Burning Witches Records, Library of the Occult, etc..). Volume 2 is a deep dive into the world of rare beats, soundtracks and library music. Eric is Odds (odd numbered tracks) Timothy (even numbered tracks). Join us as we play musical leapfrog through the trippy sounds of the 1970s and early 80s.
Finally, after many years in the works, I'm very pleased to present the latest mix tape by The Cowboys From Sweden. It almost feels silly now to admit that I started working on this mix many years ago (probably around 2013 or so), and for various reasons, I kept letting it sit, not allowing myself to finish it. Why would anybody work on a mixtape for nearly ten years? Years ago I had the realization that making mixtapes was my only true form of keeping a diary. I've never been one to document my life in any meaningful way. So in a sense, my mixes have become autobiographical in an abstract kind of way, using other's art to paint a mood or atmosphere of my general experience at any given time in my life (which is really what music is so good at doing after all). All that said, the past 7 or 8 years have brought a lot of change in my life, bad and good, which is another reason this mix went on and on. The message kept changing. I Don't Want Any Flowers (the title taken from a Luboš Fišer track from his 1972 soundtrack "Morgiana & The Cremator") in the end became about reflecting on life and its many complexities. Living, dreaming, loving, losing, joy, regret, longing, acceptance, contentment, friendships, solitude, nostalgia, reflection, frustration, etc... It's meant to be a deep introspective listen, a dream-like trip through self reflection. Or you can just enjoy these pretty songs and ignore the hidden messages. Either way, I hope you enjoy it.
Headphones recommended. A long walk is also recommended. Thanks to everybody who's been listening all these years, I appreciate you and your kind comments.
Eric Lee (The Cowboys from Sweden) is joined by special Swedish guest musician/artist Dan Gräns (Corridor People, Impo & The Tents, Toads of the Short Forest) for a rowdy mix of vintage psych, beat, garage fuzz tunes. Eric is Odds (odd numbered tracks) Dan is Evens (even numbered tracks). Join us as we play musical leapfrog through the smokey haze of the 1960s and 70s.
