NEW LINK (2025) - I Don't Want Any Flowers - Compiled & mixed by The Cowboys From Sweden (2021)

Finally, after many years in the works, I'm very pleased to present the latest mix tape by The Cowboys From Sweden. It almost feels silly now to admit that I started working on this mix many years ago (probably around 2013 or so), and for various reasons, I kept letting it sit, not allowing myself to finish it.  Why would anybody work on a mixtape for nearly ten years? Years ago I had the realization that making mixtapes was my only true form of keeping a diary.  I've never been one to document my life in any meaningful way.  So in a sense, my mixes have become autobiographical in an abstract kind of way, using other's art to paint a mood or atmosphere of my general experience at any given time in my life (which is really what music is so good at doing after all).  All that said, the past 7 or 8 years have brought a lot of change in my life, bad and good, which is another reason this mix went on and on.  The message kept changing.  I Don't Want Any Flowers (the title taken from a Luboš Fišer track from his 1972 soundtrack "Morgiana & The Cremator") in the end became about reflecting on life and its many complexities. Living, dreaming, loving, losing, joy, regret, longing, acceptance, contentment, friendships, solitude, nostalgia, reflection, frustration, etc... It's meant to be a deep introspective listen, a dream-like trip through self reflection. Or you can just enjoy these pretty songs and ignore the hidden messages.  Either way, I hope you enjoy it.

Headphones recommended. A long walk is also recommended.  Thanks to everybody who's been listening all these years, I appreciate you and your kind comments.

NEW LINK (2025) - Jane Birkin - Black... White (1980)

Here's a strange promotional pop single that was put out in 1980 by Desk & Feild.  Obviously it's a Jane Birkin single and a very funky one at that.  This single features two versions of a song called "Black... White..." (English and French vocal versions) which was written by Pierre Bachelet and Herve Roy (Emmanuelle OST).  It's a fast paced song with a driving staccato clavichord melody, bass and electric guitars.  Music for ski resorts, should go nicely with a glass of Génépi.  Compliments of BLACK & WHITE Scotch Whiskey.

Ripped from the original 7", includes cover scans.

NEW LINK (2025) - Light Reflections - Tell Me Once Again 7" (1973)

Here's another somewhat obscure single from the early 70s by a Brazilian based group called Light Reflections.  Tell Me Once Again (Side A) is a sweet and smooth love ballad.  Nice mellow jazzy electric guitar tones, sentimental string arrangements, organs, bass, drums...  Both of these tracks are sung in English (with a good thick accent!).  Once again, I was after the B-Side when I tracked this one down.  Eyes Blue Eyes is a dark and trippy downtempo pop tune with a strong liturgical organ intro leading into some slow rimshot breaks driven by a descending pick-bass line.  Vocals are very laid back and nice on this one (melancholy and dreamy).  A smoky atmospheric pop tune not to be missed!  Ripped from vinyl at 320 kbps, includes cover scans!

NEW LINK (2025) - Autumn Moon - Compiled & Mixed by The Cowboys From Sweden (2015)

Okay, here's a new Cowboys from Sweden mix I finished today called Autumn Moon. It was intended to be a Fall/Winter mix, so naturally with my luck it lands ironically on the first day of Spring! Anyway, it's a mix of trippy psychedelic folk/pop and library songs from the late 60s and early 70s. Also I believe this is the first Cowboys mix that is entirely in English (and includes only 3 instrumentals). I thought a lot about my time living in Prague (featured on the cover) when I made this, so the mood is pretty old, overcast, grey and dreamy. To quote the film The Science of Sleep, this mix is roughly based on the themes of "Love, friendships, relationships... and all those 'ships' "... I hope you enjoy, it's a moody one!

Ripped at 320 kbps, includes front and back covers.

NEW LINK (2025) - Prince Da Baroda - Que C'est Triste Un Monde Sans Amour/Indira 7" (1970)

Okay, it's been a while since I've posted anything new here.  So here's an obscure little treat for fans of bizarre seven inches.  Here we have a two track single by Prince De Baroda.  I assume he's a real prince, but haven't had much luck finding out anything about him (feel free to fill me in).  Anyway, oddly enough these songs are sung in French and are quite beautiful actually.  On the A side we have "Que C'est Triste Un Monde Sans Amour", an nice melodic ballad actually written by Patricia Carli and on the B side we have "Indira" written by E. Marnay and J.P. Calvet, another pretty love ballad.  The most important thing to point out here is that these tracks were produced by Jean Bouchety who happened to compose one of my favorite KPM lps (The Magic of Bouchety) and a million other things.  So on both tracks we hear that signature Bouchety sound with an obvious eastern flair (sitars, tablas etc.).  But overall this is similar to the typical French pop sound, nice break beats, strings, groovy bass lines.. The works.  I'm not sure what else to say about this one.  I guess if you are aware of it already, I think we'd get along quite well.  This records doesn't exactly appear out of thin air, it took a bit of work to track it down.  So hopefully some of you will enjoy it as well.  320 rip from vinyl.  Include cover scans. Enjoy.

NEW LINK (2025) - Promenade Solitaire: Compiled & Mixed by The Cowboys From Sweden (2013)

I am pleased to announce that another brand new mix by The Cowboys From Sweden is complete! The mix is called "Promenade Solitaire", named after an Ennio Morricone track featured in the mix. The title pretty much sums up the feel of this mix perfectly. Themes for solitude, themes for walking alone. This mix has been my company on my daily walks through the park (usually at around sunset or after dark) this whole year. The overall feel is sentimental, lonely, highly classical and sometimes triumphant. There are plenty of obscure tracks to be found here that have been lost over time, so hopefully much of this music is new to you, since I had to dig pretty deep for some of these gems. The mix is dominated by dark classical melodies and lush groovy arrangements from mostly French and Italian composers and pop icons. Lots of big vocals and moody instrumentals that are sure to steal your breath. This might be the moodiest mix by the Cowboys from Sweden to date. I sincerely hope that you enjoy it. I would strongly suggest that you listen to it in headphones while walking alone at night. Perhaps then you will hear what I hear...

Ripped at 320kbps, Artwork included. Comments are very much appreciated. Thanks.

NEW LINK (2025) - A Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin single from '69....

A few weeks ago I was browsing my friend Robbie's (the other Cowboy From Sweden) 7" collection and came across this one. I'm sure you all already know it, but I got excited about it and wanted to rip it since it was an original. Keep in mind, it is an original from 1969, so the sound is a bit dirty, but perhaps not as dirty as the music (ha ha)... Anyway, I am huge fan of both of these tracks, Jane B being one of my all time favorites. Both tracks were originally featured on the "Jane Birkin Serge Gainsbourg" LP that was released in 1969 by Fontana. This album is probably the holy grail of sleazy pop chanson, filled with innuendo and blatant sexually charged tracks (69 Erotic Year, Les Sucettes). I think probably enough has been said about "Je T'aime...Moi Non Plus" already, so I don't really want to throw in my two cents, but I will say that it is a masterpiece of liturgical erotica (if that genre exists). I will say a little about "Jane B" however. The melody of the song is based on Frédéric Chopin's Prelude No. 4 in E Minor (one of the "five easy pieces" featured in the 1970 Jack Nicholson film). The other thing about the song that blows my mind is the lyrics which happen to be very cryptic and strangely conceptual for such a pretty tune. The lyrics read as a police report of a missing girl (probably murdered).

They read:

"Reporting
Blue eyes brown hair
Jane B
English, sex: Female
Age: between twenty and twenty-one
Learning drawing
Residing with his parents
Blue eyes brown hair
Jane B. Pale complexion, aquiline nose
Missing this morning
At Four Forty
Blue eyes brown hair
Jane B.
You sleep by the roadside
Blood flower by hand"

Anyway, so now I'm done with my little history lesson, here's the link. Ripped at 320 Kbps with scans included. As always, comments make this more fun...

Tracks:
A: Je T'aime...Moi Non Plus
B: Jane B

NEW LINK (2025) - Christophe - Aline/Je Ne T'aime Plus 7" (1965)

A few months back I found this rare Christophe Single in an "as is" dollar bin at record store. Turned out to be two really solid french pop tracks, so I thought I should share... Side A titled "Aline" is a lighter number, I assume they are both love songs although I do not speak French. Anyway, Aline is a breezy tune backed with a spector-esque wall of sound: rumbling bass, chink guitars, harpsichord, choir, strings.. The works... On the B side, we have "Je Ne T'aime Plus", which features the same production techniques as Aline but the tune is a bit darker, deeper, more serious with a slight western tint to the melody. Both tracks here are top notch Chanson and would seem at home on Françoise Hardy's debut album "The -Yeh-Yeh- Girl From Paris" from the same year. In fact "Je Ne T'aime Plus" is quite similar to miss Hardy's hit "Le Temps De L'Amour" which is one of my favorites. Give it a listen, the record is well loved, but still sounds decent considering it's age. 320 Rip from vinyl, with scans.

Tracks:
A. Aline
B. Je Ne T'aime Pus

NEW LINK (2025) - Françoise Hardy - EPL. 8111 7" (1963)

So today I sat around for a few hours and ripped a bunch of 45 singles for fun. Naturally, I thought I should share them with everyone. First up is a 4 song EP from 1963 by the lovely queen of Ye-ye, Françoise Hardy. This is really cool, very early work that features arrangements by Marcel Hendrix and his Orchestra. Kind of a western cowboy pop vibe. Short and sweet (9 minutes of music)! Ripped at 320 Kbps. Get it!

Tracks:
01 Qui Aime-t-il Vraiment (Your Nose Is Gonna Grow)
02 Saurai-Je
03 Bien Longtemps
04 On Dit De Lui (It's Gonna Take Me Some Time)
