NEW LINK (2025) - I Don't Want Any Flowers - Compiled & mixed by The Cowboys From Sweden (2021)

Finally, after many years in the works, I'm very pleased to present the latest mix tape by The Cowboys From Sweden. It almost feels silly now to admit that I started working on this mix many years ago (probably around 2013 or so), and for various reasons, I kept letting it sit, not allowing myself to finish it.  Why would anybody work on a mixtape for nearly ten years? Years ago I had the realization that making mixtapes was my only true form of keeping a diary.  I've never been one to document my life in any meaningful way.  So in a sense, my mixes have become autobiographical in an abstract kind of way, using other's art to paint a mood or atmosphere of my general experience at any given time in my life (which is really what music is so good at doing after all).  All that said, the past 7 or 8 years have brought a lot of change in my life, bad and good, which is another reason this mix went on and on.  The message kept changing.  I Don't Want Any Flowers (the title taken from a Luboš Fišer track from his 1972 soundtrack "Morgiana & The Cremator") in the end became about reflecting on life and its many complexities. Living, dreaming, loving, losing, joy, regret, longing, acceptance, contentment, friendships, solitude, nostalgia, reflection, frustration, etc... It's meant to be a deep introspective listen, a dream-like trip through self reflection. Or you can just enjoy these pretty songs and ignore the hidden messages.  Either way, I hope you enjoy it.

Headphones recommended. A long walk is also recommended.  Thanks to everybody who's been listening all these years, I appreciate you and your kind comments.

NEW LINK (2025) - Dina J & The Cowboys From Sweden - Love And Other Crimes (2017)

Last month I had the pleasure of doing a guest DJ set on my friend Dina J's radio show "High Noon" on NTS Radio.  She played for the first hour and I played the second.  Since we both have very similar tastes, I thought I would be fun to post up our collaborative set as a downloadable mix tape.  If you like my mixes, you'll be sure to enjoy Dina's!  Due to the length of the mix, I had to upload it in two parts. Links include artwork.  Enjoy this sprawling two hour cinematic journey!

Download Here.

For other excellent DJ sets by Dina, check out her soundcloud page here, and don't forget to listen in to High Noon here!

NEW LINK (2025) - Autumn Moon - Compiled & Mixed by The Cowboys From Sweden (2015)

Okay, here's a new Cowboys from Sweden mix I finished today called Autumn Moon. It was intended to be a Fall/Winter mix, so naturally with my luck it lands ironically on the first day of Spring! Anyway, it's a mix of trippy psychedelic folk/pop and library songs from the late 60s and early 70s. Also I believe this is the first Cowboys mix that is entirely in English (and includes only 3 instrumentals). I thought a lot about my time living in Prague (featured on the cover) when I made this, so the mood is pretty old, overcast, grey and dreamy. To quote the film The Science of Sleep, this mix is roughly based on the themes of "Love, friendships, relationships... and all those 'ships' "... I hope you enjoy, it's a moody one!

Ripped at 320 kbps, includes front and back covers.

Get it here.

NEW LINK (2025) - Nilsson - Per Chi/Leggenda 7" (1972)

A few weeks back my friend Robbie (an infinite source of rare vinyl I can't afford!) found this rare Nilsson single on Italian Ebay. Side A contains an Italian language version of his smash hit "Without You". At the end of the song, he does switch back to English on the last chorus. A powerful song, now available in Italian. But the real winner here is side B, from what I can tell is an old Italian folk song called "Leggenda", which lyrically has something to do with trying to catch a butterfly (and I believe killing it in the process). The moral of the story is that we cannot catch our dreams. Anyway, the song is really catchy and kind of dark aside from the really uplifting bouncy baroque chorus. A rare gem in the vast catalogue of a musical genius! Give it a try. Ripped from vinyl, at 320 Kbps with cover scan included. I would have included the back too, but it was the same as the front...

Tracks:
A: Per Chi (Without You)
B: Leggenda
