Listen People - Compiled & mixed by The Cowboys From Sweden (2025)

Greetings to all, I hope this message finds you well!  It's a new year and I've just completed a new mix! Volume 19 to be exact!  Listen People is a collection of songs that have captivated my mind over the past few years, which for me has been a time of great reflection.  With all the things going on in the world, good and bad, it's always nice to come back to music, something that can be healing and bring us all together.  At least that's my hope.  This mix is somewhat of a continuation of my 2021 mix "I don't want any flowers" which was a dreamy introspective psych folk mix.  Listen People continues down the road a little further but perhaps leans into positivity a bit more than the former.  Songs about passing time, life, love, family, gratitude. travel, change, etc...  I thought a lot about my childhood and my parents generation while making this one, taking comfort in old memories of simpler times when people enjoyed each others' company and lent a helping hand in times of need.  The hippies that grew up and had kids I guess.  Anyhow, I don't need to rattle on any longer.  Here's a collection of some great folk, rock and pop songs from the late 60s and early 70s that'll hopefully resonate with you.  The title of the mix is taken from the French psych band Triangle's song "Listen People" which happens to be featured on the mix.  Thanks to all who've been listening to my mixes from the beginning and are still here!  Stay positive and enjoy the music!

NEW LINK (2025) - The Death of a Candle - Compiled & Mixed by The Cowboys From Sweden (2016)

Here's the latest installment from The Cowboys From Sweden.  The Death of a Candle is a slow dramatic listen loaded with moody soundtrack cuts and rare pop sounds from France, Italy and a few other places.  This mix was conceptualized as sort of a fairytale story and is intended to be listened to with that in mind.  Sort of a movie soundtrack with a plot that you can follow perhaps (Although there isn't one)...  This is possibly the moodiest Cowboys mix to date due to it's slow dreamlike delivery.  Although the focus here is more on moody low key symphonic sounds perhaps, there are still some funky moments here and there.  This mix features quite a few obscure gems from my collection which include Ann Sorel's breathtaking liturgical pop tune "La Prelude... Et La Suite", Aleph's insane "Love Memories", Guido and Maurizio De Angeles' "Penso Se..." television theme, and a few beautiful rarities by Jennifer and Elsa Laurent to name a few. Probably the track that inspired this mix from the beginning was Michel Legrand's "Amour... Amour" from the excellent Peau D'Ane (or Donkey Skin) soundtrack (which happens to actually be a fairytale).  Grab your headphones and go out for a nice long walk, or light a candlestick and watch it burn down!  And don't forget to play it loud!  320 rips with artwork included.  Enjoy!  Thanks for listening.  Comments are appreciated!

NEW LINK (2025) - Dani ‎– Ah! Mon Cher Hector (1971)

Here is a pretty rare single from the French singer Dani taken from the film "Qu'est-ce Qui Fait Courir Les Crocodiles".  I know nothing about the film, but I do know that this is one of the best songs I have ever heard!  Side A, that is. "Ah! Mon Cher Hector" is a heavy hitting dark orchestral pop number written by Jean-Claude Vannier (Well, both sides are Vannier compositions actually).  This track features all of my favorite elements of a Vannier production: breaks, orchestral stabs in minor keys, staccato piano and harpsichord riffs, noisy percussion, and of course sexy bass lines and sexy vocals.  This track was already featured on the "Be Quiet" mix by The Cowboys From Sweden, but being the completist that I am, I figured there are some collectors out there who would appreciate a proper rip of this one.  The b-side is your typical zany instrumental Vannier thing.  Hope you enjoy!  320 rip from original 7" (scans included).

NEW LINK (2025) - Léonie ‎– En Alabama / Wahala Manitou 7" (1971)

Here's a little treat for all of you who collect French rarities!  A nice little 7" by Léonie Lousseau featuring two insanely good tracks! "En Alabama" (Written by the one and only Jean-Claude Vannier and Sébastien Poitrenaud) is basically a vocal version of Vannier's library groove "Je M'Appelle Geraldine", a bonus track from his 1972 masterpiece "L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches".  On the B side we find a nice tune written by French pop star and soundtracker - Christope called "Wahala Manitou", a bit of a slow burner, but equally as engaging.  This single is pretty hard to find in the states, so I hope you enjoy this fresh vinyl rip!  320 kbps naturally with cover scans included.
